A future digital substation in augmented reality. Architectural visualization right on a tablet screen—convenient, clear and mobile.
For Gazpromneft-Energoservice, we developed an AR presentation that lets you see the design of a digital substation for the Moscow Oil Refinery in augmented reality. The solution was created specifically for tablets: simply point the tablet's camera at any surface (a desk, for example), and a three-dimensional model of the future facility appears on the screen. It can be rotated, zoomed in on and viewed from any angle. Here augmented reality works as a full-fledged alternative to a traditional physical scale model. It allows the architectural design to be studied in just as much detail, but without the lengthy and expensive production that physical models require. The app launches in seconds, is easy to update and is always at hand—in a briefcase, at a meeting, at an off-site presentation. This presentation format is especially convenient at the early stages of a project, when the idea needs to be explained clearly but there are no construction materials or photographs yet. A digital model in AR helps the client and architects quickly understand the concept, ask questions and make decisions. It is a modern, mobile and cost-effective way to visualize infrastructure facilities.
